Director - Strategic Tooling Centers

Basic Function

Planning and directing the design and construction of plastic thermoforming mold tooling operations and programs. Providing design engineering advice to suppliers and assists other Gage departments as required.

Formulating and recommending mold manufacturing policies and programs enabling Gage Industries to keep its competitive position and the profitability. Directing and coordinating activities in such manner that products are manufactured on schedule within quality and cost objectives.

Responsibilities

Establishing both the design and build functions for molds, leading to the distribution of tooling projects thus assuring the best utilization of internal and external resources.

Overseeing productivity of current tooling activities.

Monitoring contracts and results of suppliers and retaining the best suppliers.

Building the necessary infrastructure to enable Gage Industries to meet its sales and profit goals.

Hiring and selecting the staff necessary to oversee the supplier network and in house mold making and design operation.

Developing and recommending mold making and design policy and establishing department operating policy.

Directing and designing the manufacturing of all the molds at lowest cost consistent with established specifications as to quality and quantity.

Establishing the manufacturing and design engineering standards and specifications.

Coordinating supplier activity, award contracts, expediting deliveries and overseeing all mold making and design activities.

Coordinating the work of subordinate design engineers.

Preparing capital and operating budgets, training and development plans for tooling engineers.

Preferred Experience and Education Profile

6-15 years experience designing and manufacturing thin gauge thermoforming .
Two to three years experience managing mold designers.
Job costing experience (machine hour rates, manpower requirements and materials).
Currently using state of art CAD/CAM/CAE software. Preferably Auto Cad and/or
Pro-E.
Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

Manager, Decision Maker, Problem Solver, Doer, High Energy Level, Good Communication Skills, Tolerance for Stress.

Could currently be working as a senior Tool Designer with management aspirations.

Compensation Package

The compensation package will be in the $75K-$80K range, plus an exceptional incentive and employee benefit package. The potential for advancement and promotion are a strong possibility.
